Cymru 1-5 Denmark
- Classy Denmark maintain 100% Nations League record
- Jess Fishlock scores for Cymru with lovely strike
- October matches see Cymru go to Germany and Denmark
A convincing win for Denmark as they continue their fine form at the start of this inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League competition.
They dominated the game and signalled their intentions within the early exchanges when they took a quick two goal lead through Pernille Harder. The Danish captain went on to complete her hat-trick in the second half, scoring her team’s fifth goal.
Between the Harder goals, Cymru came out in the second half with purpose and applied pressure to the Denmark defence. The pressure paid off when a wonderful strike from Jess Fishlock powerfully found its way into the back of the net. The comeback however, was short lived. Freferikke Thøgersen scored a third before Sanne Troelsgaard netted a fourth.
Denmark were impressive and these games in League A of the UEFA Women’s Nations League are pitting Cymru against the very best teams in Europe. Positive lessons can always be learned from such experiences.
In next month’s UEFA Women’s Nations League matches, Cymru go to Germany (27 October) and Denmark (31 October).
