The Football Association of Wales is inviting people from across the football family in Wales to help shape the future of the game by becoming members of the FAW Council as part of a major programme of governance modernisation and reform.
Following the approval of the ‘Together Stronger for the Future’ governance review in February 2025, the FAW is committed to broadening and diversifying its governance structures to better reflect the modern game in Wales and the communities connected to it.
The changes are rooted in the FAW’s ‘Our Wales’ strategy and are designed to ensure that voices from every part of Welsh football are represented at the highest level of decision making.
As part of this work, the FAW Council will expand over the next two years to include representatives from across the game, including players, coaches, supporters, youth football, para-football, match officials, ethnically diverse communities and affiliate partners.
The FAW believes that Welsh football is strongest when it reflects the people who play, coach, support and grow the game every day in communities across the country.
Currently, more than 119,000 players, 13,000 coaches, 28,000 members of The Red Wall and thousands of volunteers, referees and participants contribute to football in Wales. The expansion of the FAW Council will ensure those experiences and perspectives have a direct voice in helping shape the future direction of the game.
FAW Chief Executive Officer Noel Mooney said: “Welsh football is built on the passion, commitment and experiences of people right across our game, from grassroots volunteers and coaches to players, supporters and communities in every part of Wales.
“As part of our Together Stronger for the Future reforms, we want our governance structures to better reflect the modern game and the diverse football family we proudly represent.
“These changes are about ensuring more voices are heard around the table, creating stronger connections with our stakeholders and helping shape a future that is inclusive, progressive and ambitious for Welsh football.
“The FAW Council plays an important role in helping guide the future direction of the game in Wales and we want people with passion, expertise and a genuine desire to make a positive difference to come forward and help us continue to move Welsh football forward together.”
What does an FAW Council Member do?
FAW Council Members play an important role in overseeing and supporting the development of football in Wales at every level, from the grassroots game through to the elite international environment.
The role includes:
- Helping oversee the strategic direction of football in Wales.
- Advising on key projects and developments across the game.
- Supporting the review of FAW rules and regulations.
- Engaging with stakeholders and representing the voices of their communities.
- Promoting the values of the FAW across Welsh football.
- Helping protect the integrity and future of the game in Cymru.
Council Members can also have the opportunity to contribute through advisory committees, ensuring that knowledge and lived experience from across the football family directly influences decision making within the FAW.
A Chance to Make a Difference
The FAW is looking for passionate, forward-thinking people who care deeply about Welsh football and want to help drive positive change across the game.
The organisation is particularly focused on ensuring its governance structures are representative, inclusive and reflective of modern Wales. The long-term ambition includes increasing female representation and strengthening diversity across the FAW Council and Board.
Successful candidates will help ensure that the experiences of players, coaches, supporters and communities across Wales are heard at the top table of Welsh football.
The FAW is seeking individuals with strong communication and leadership skills, an understanding of good governance and a genuine passion for the development of football in Wales. Experience in areas such as governance, safeguarding, finance, commercial, marketing or high-performance sport would also be beneficial.
These opportunities are available to view on the Vacancies page on the FAW website.
