Cymru suffered a 4-0 defeat to Germany in their second UEFA European Under-19 Championship Group A fixture at The Racecourse Ground despite producing a much improved performance in front of another passionate home crowd.

Chris Gunter’s side made an encouraging start and threatened inside the opening 10 minutes when Cruz Allen drove an effort narrowly wide. Germany took the lead on 21 minutes through Francis Onyeka before Montrell Culbreath headed in Moritz Reimers’ cross nine minutes later.

Cymru continued to compete after the break and Henry Kasvosve produced a vital goal-line clearance, but Otto Stange added Germany’s third on 59 minutes after being played through by Boris Mamuzah Lum.

The hosts kept battling, with Oliver Bostock and Robert Tankiewicz both seeing efforts blocked late on. Germany then missed from the penalty spot when Onyeka struck the crossbar after Jac Thomas fouled Kacper Koscierski, but the visitors added a fourth in stoppage time as Taycan Etcibasi found Koscierski, whose cross was headed in by Jykese Fields.

Cymru now turn their attention to their final Group A fixture against Denmark for a chance to put themselves into a play-off match for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan against the third placed team from Group B.
