Cymru U21 win with dominant performance

Cymru U21 4-0 Liechtenstein U21

Cymru produced a dominant display in their U21 friendly match against Liechtenstein in Newport on Friday (8 September).

Matty Jones was pleased with his team’s effort as he used the match to prepare Cymru for their UEFA U21 Championship qualifying match against Lithuania on Tuesday (12 September).

“We’ve given six new caps on the pitch and five of those started. It poses a healthy problem for us because we’re creating more depth and strength in the group,” said Jones after the match.

Cymru spent the majority of the game in the Liechtenstein half of the pitch and they showed their dominance in the fixture early and deserved their goal when it came in the 28th minute. When Cameron Congreve and Luke Harris linked up, the ball found its way to Josh Low at the far post to make it 1-0.

Rubin Colwill controlled matters in the attacking third of the pitch and netted twice in the second half.

His first was from the penalty spot after Congreve was felled in the box and the second came shortly after Pat Jones’ ball into the six-yard box ended up at Colwill’s feet following a failed clearance by a Liechtenstein defender.

A fourth goal was added when Josh Thomas netted with four minutes remaining.
