Fans are encouraged to get into their seats early ahead of Cymru’s FIFA World Cup play-off semi-final against Bosnia & Herzegovina to celebrate Ben Davies’ milestone of one hundred Cymru appearances.
Davies’ golden cap will be presented pre-match by Cymru legend Cliff Jones, one of the stars of the 1958 World Cup, which was Cymru’s first appearance on the biggest stage in world football.
Davies made his Cymru debut against Scotland in October 2012 and the defender has appeared in two EURO tournaments and a World Cup. The century milestone was achieved against Belgium in last October’s World Cup qualifying round match at the Cardiff City Stadium and Davies will be at tomorrow night’s game to receive his golden cap despite his recent injury.
Cliff Jones will present the cap pitch side and is the last surviving Cymru player from the 1958 FIFA World Cup squad. The 91-year-old was capped 59 times for Cymru, scoring 16 goals, and played five times in the World Cup. Davies’ and Jones’ club careers took similar trajectories, with both players starting their careers at Swansea City, before moving to Tottenham Hotspur for the majority of their club appearances.
The cap presentation will take place shortly after the teams walk out. The Red Wall are encouraged to be in their seats early to celebrate the cap presentation and to sing the national anthem with pride ahead of the key play-off match as Craig Bellamy’s side look to book a place in this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
