The Oval to host Cymru’s final U21 EURO qualifier against Austria

The Oval, home of Novira Cymru Premier side Caernarfon Town, will host Cymru’s final UEFA U21 EURO qualifying fixture against Austria on Tuesday 6 October (KO TBC).

The match marks the first time for an U21 match to be held in Caernarfon, showcasing the transformation of The Oval following an investment of more than £1 million ahead of this summer’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship finals in north Wales.

The redevelopment included the installation of a brand-new playing surface, alongside a significant extension and renovation of the changing room facilities. The stadium hosted three matches during the tournament, featuring Croatia, Serbia and Italy.

The improvements come at an exciting time for Caernarfon Town, who lifted the JD Welsh Cup for the first time in the club’s history last season and will now welcome the next generation of Welsh international talent to Gwynedd.

Speaking following the completion of the redevelopment, Caernarfon Town chairman Paul Evans recently told faw.cymru: “The work carried out at The Oval has transformed the stadium. It will be among the best in Wales, with fantastic modern facilities and a top-class pitch.

“We hope that what is happening now will make us an even more attractive proposition for supporters and businesses. The project has given the club a huge boost, and I believe it will do the same for Caernarfon as a town.”

The fixture will be Matty Jones’ side’s final match of the qualifying campaign after travelling to Belgium earlier in the international window.
