The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is proud to dedicate the upcoming Cymru v Sweden UEFA Nations League match to the Football v Homophobia (FvH) campaign, reinforcing the FAW’s commitment to ensuring football is a game for everyone.
February marks the Football v Homophobia Month of Action, which unites football in opposing homophobia and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people. This campaign also celebrates diversity across the game and promotes an inclusive football culture.
By aligning this fixture with the campaign, the FAW aims to amplify the message of inclusion, encourage discussion on the barriers still faced by the LGBTQ+ community in football, and promote the meaningful initiative across the sport in Wales and beyond.
Cymru Captain, Angharad James said: “As Cymru players we want to utilise our platform to champion inclusivity in football and across society. It’s important that everyone feels welcome and safe in our sport. Dedicating our match against Sweden to Football v Homophobia sends a clear message that football is for everyone.”
FAW Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Sustainability Executive, Carys Ingram, said: “Campaigns such as the FVH campaign are an annual reminder to us that we need to keep improving environments across the game here in Cymru and beyond, but the work does not finish when the month of action concludes. We all have a duty to ensure football is a place where everyone can feel they belong no matter who they are and our national teams leading the way in that messaging is truly inspiring.
“We will continue to work with our partners at Football V Homophobia Cymru and our LGBTQ+ supporter group The Rainbow Wall to ensure all of Y Wal Goch in the LGBTQ+ community feel that Welsh football is a place for them. ”
FvH Cymru Campaign Director, Lou Englefield, added: “We’ve had an incredible Month of Action in 2025 with over 250 clubs and leagues taking part. To top it off with a Cymru international fixture dedicated to the campaign means a huge amount to Football v Homophobia Cymru. It will help spread our message of inclusion across Wales and further afield”
The FAW is dedicated to ensuring that football is truly for everyone, everywhere in Wales by championing equality, diversity, and inclusion across the game. The latest episode of FC Cymru shines a spotlight on Football v Homophobia’s Month of Action, exploring the vital work being done to promote inclusivity and equality in football. Lauren Price and Elise Hughes also discuss their important roles as LGBTQ+ ambassadors.
Football v Homophobia Cymru will also be hosting a bucket collection at the STōK Cae Ras ahead of Cymru v Sweden and you can check out further supporter information here.
