Cymru U21 duo visit Swiss Valley Primary School ahead of camp

Cymru U21 head coach Matty Jones and midfielder Ben Lloyd surprised pupils at a school in Llanelli on Tuesday.

Pupils at Swiss Valley Primary School were given the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with Jones and Lloyd about their experiences playing and coaching in football.

The pair, who will meet up on camp later this week ahead of Cymru’s upcoming matches, offered the pupils advice which they could take on board for their future endeavours. The pupils also discussed their inspirations and were questioned on their aspirations for the future.

“It was great to visit Swiss Valley and surprise the pupils by taking Ben along too,” said Jones, who is from Llanelli. “We are always given a warm reception when we do these visits and we enjoyed engaging with the pupils during the Q&A session.

“A lot of the questions were obviously around football but it was really special hearing from the pupils about who inspires them and their aspirations for the future. Hopefully they took something away from our visit and were inspired by some of the stories that were shared.

“We are looking forward to seeing some of them join us for our game against Lithuania later this month. There were a number of clubs and schools that supported us in our home qualifiers last year and we would love to see as many as we can in attendance again this time around.”

The UEFA EURO U21 qualifier against Lithuania in Newport will get under way at 6pm on Friday 22 March and comes the day after Cymru’s UEFA Euro 2024 play-off semi-final against Finland in Cardiff.

Jones’ side sit second in Group I after taking eight points from fives games in the qualifying campaign.

Tickets for the qualifier against Lithuania are available to purchase at faw.cymru/tickets, while the match will be available to watch on Sgorio.
