Cymru U21 squad announced for Czechia qualifier and Slovakia friendly

Matty Jones has announced his Cymru U21 squad for the 2025 UEFA U21 EURO qualifier against Czechia and friendly against Slovakia.

Jones has named a 22-player squad for Cymru’s final game of the qualifying campaign at Rodney Parade on Friday 11 October and friendly at DAC Arena in Dunajská Streda four days later.

Midfielder Owen Hampson and goalkeeper Lewys Benjamin have received their first call ups to the squad. The latter replaces Ed Beach, who has played in six out of the seven qualifiers but misses out on this camp after sustaining an injury.

Joe Low helped Cymru earn a 2-1 win over Iceland in the last window but picked up his third yellow card of the qualifying campaign and misses out through suspension.

Fellow defender Ed Turns is included in the squad for the first time since September 2023 when he captained Cymru to a 3-2 win over Lithuania, while striker Josh Farrell returns for the first time since June 2023.

Matty Jones’ side, who sit joint top of their qualifying group, can secure automatic qualification for the UEFA U21 EURO finals if they better Denmark’s result in their final qualifier.

While a draw against Czechia in Newport would be enough for Cymru to seal at least a play-off for the first time since 2008.
