The Football Association of Wales is proud to announce that the Cymru Women’s National Team has won the ‘Team of the Year’ award at the Womenin Wales Awards 2026.
Organised by Businessin Wales and Sportin Wales, the Womenin Wales Awards celebrates the extraordinary women across Wales who have helped shape the sport and business landscapes through breaking records, creating paths for the next generation, or excelling in their field.
The awards ceremony took place at the Marriott Hotel in Cardiff on Thursday 19 March, where Cymru were recognised for their work on and off the pitch inspiring a nation following their participation at the UEFA Women’s Euros in the summer.
On receiving the award Cymru captain, Angharad James said, “I wanted to say a massive diolch on behalf of the team. It’s truly an honour to pick up the ‘Team of the Year’ award tonight. For us it was a special summer. To represent Cymru on the biggest stage at the Euros in Switzerland was a dream come true, and a very proud moment for all of us.
“For Us, For Them, For Her is our slogan. For Them, the players that came before us, we thank you. For Her, every little girl watching, we hope that we inspired you and showed you that dreams do come true.
“I would also like to take this moment to thank the FAW and Y Wal Goch for supporting us last summer at the Euros and who continue to support us every game. I’d also like to mention that singing the Welsh national anthem and speaking the Welsh language on the biggest stage is my proudest moment. Diolch yn fawr.”
Cymru’s Ffion Morgan was also amongst the winners as she picked up the ‘Media Champion’ award given to a sports star who has built a following on social media through their personality, likeability and creativity. Morgan was praised for giving her fans a behind the scenes and real look at what being an international footballer is really like.
“Diolch for this award. Thank you to my sister for making me start in the first place and all the followers or people who have come across and liked any of my content in the last couple of years. To share Wales and inspire young people along the way has been fantastic. I hope to continue sharing the Welsh language and sharing our culture on social media and across the world. Diolch yn fawr,” said Morgan on receiving the award.
Former Cymru player Jess Fishlock was the winner of ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ and ‘Woman of the Year’ at the ceremony. Fishlock was praised for the high standards demonstrated throughout her career and the legacy she has created for sport in Wales.
“I’m super honoured to win ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ especially after the last year of my international career. It’s always nice to win awards and to do it off the back of such a great year, is always nice.
“My family have been the backbone of my career from day one. My teammates, former teammates now, without them we wouldn’t have been able to create or achieve what we have done collectively,” said Fishlock.
On receiving the award for ‘Woman of the Year’ she added, “I’m used to having ‘sports’ added to the awards so it’s a little strange to win something else. Thank you very much for my ‘Woman of the Year’ award, it’s a huge honour and something that I will cherish deeply.”
Llongyfarchiadau to Cymru, Ffion and Jess.
