DEC Türkiye & Syria appeal

Ahead of Cymru’s UEFA EURO Qualifier against Türkiye, the FAW are supporting DEC Cymru and DEC member charities.

In February this year, devastating earthquakes killed at least 58,000 people and destroyed around 300,000 buildings across southern Türkiye and across northwest Syria. Wales responded generously to the DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal, raising £4.6m towards a total of £150 million raised across the whole of the UK.

While rebuilding will take years, donations are now helping hundreds of thousands of people on both sides of the border with vital aid, supporting them on the long road to recovery.

The enormous damage caused by the earthquakes is still obvious in Turkey, where thousands of residential buildings collapsed as people slept. DEC charities and their local partners have been providing cash payments, food safe, warm places to stay, psychological support and a range of other items alongside the Turkish authorities, as well as in north west Syria

The generous response of the UK public has enabled local responders to make a huge difference to so many people who lost their homes, livelihoods and loved ones and help them slowly start to recover. But the needs are vast and people require ongoing support after these incredibly destructive earthquakes.
