Erin Murray wins Bute Energy Welsh Cup Player of the Round

Barry Town United’s Erin Murray has been selected as the Player of the Round for the Bute Energy Welsh Cup Round Two.

Murray played a key role in her side progressing past Caldicot Town, but not in the way anyone would have expected before the game.

The forward opened the scoring in the tie after just seven minutes, but after a red card for Barry goalkeeper Molly Arnesen early in the second period, Murray went in between the sticks for the remainder of the game.

It finished 2-2 at Jubilee Way to go to penalties, and while Murray may have missed her own spot-kick, she produced two saves to deny Caldicot duo Rhiannon Williams and Kennesha Nanette, becoming the unlikely hero for her side between the sticks.

Barry Town United will travel to Bute Energy Welsh Cup holders Cardiff City in the quarter-finals on Sunday 16 February.
