FAW pays tribute to former international Kenny Jackett

The Football Association of Wales is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Cymru international Kenny Jackett at the age of 64.

Jackett earned 31 caps for Cymru between 1982 and 1988, representing his country with distinction during a six-year international career. He made his debut in a UEFA European Championship qualifier against Norway in September 1982 and made his final appearance against Sweden in April 1988.

At club level, Jackett spent his entire playing career with Watford. A skilful left-footed player, he was part of the Watford side managed by Graham Taylor that achieved promotion to the English First Division, finished runners-up in the top flight in 1982-83 and reached the 1984 English FA Cup Final.

A knee injury forced Jackett to retire from playing at the age of 28, but he would go on to enjoy a highly successful managerial career. He is fondly remembered by supporters of Swansea City, where he guided the club to promotion from English League Two in 2005 and helped lay the foundations for the Swans’ remarkable rise through the English football pyramid. With the Swans, he also won two consecutive FAW Premier Cup titles in 2004/05 and 2005/06.

He also enjoyed managerial spells with Watford, Millwall, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Portsmouth, Leyton Orient and Rotherham United.

The thoughts of everyone at the Football Association of Wales are with Kenny’s family and friends at this difficult time.
