FAW Women’s Cup Semi-Final Preview

Four teams will battle it out for a place in the FAW Women’s Cup final this weekend.

Briton Ferry Llansawel, who are setting the pace at the top of the Genero Adran South table, are the only second tier side left in the competition and take on Aberystwyth Town at Richmond Park.

Ferry have won eight of their nine games in the league this season in their bid to return to the top flight and earned a 5-1 win over Cardiff Wanderers in the previous round to reach the last four.

Aberystwyth beat Wrexham 3-1 in the previous round but head into this weekend’s game following a difficult run of form, having lost three of their last four games in all competitions.

Gavin Allen’s side missed out on a place in the top four in the league this season and were knocked out of the Genero Adran Trophy last time out, but they still have the opportunity to reach the FAW Women’s Cup final for the first time this season.

The two teams last met in the last 16 of the Genero Adran Trophy last season, where goals from Hannah Pusey and Carys Davies saw the Seasiders earn a 2-0 win over Ferry at Park Avenue.

An all-Genero Adran Premier tie at Penydarren Park sees Cardiff Met and the defending champions Cardiff City meet in what will be a repeat of last season’s final.

Met secured a convincing 5-1 win over Llandudno to set up a tie against their city rivals. They head into the semi final having won seven of their last eight games in all competitions and also have a Genero Adran Trophy final to look forward to.

The Bluebirds, meanwhile, are unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions so far this season, a run of form that has seen them set the pace in the Genero Adran Premier and reach the Genero Adran Trophy final. Their 6-0 win over Abergavenny in the previous round of the FAW Women’s Cup ensured they sealed a place in this weekend’s last four.

Iain Darbyshire’s side have come out on top in the two previous meetings with the Archers this season, securing 3-1 and 5-0 wins over them respectively in the league.
