Foster officiates at the World Cup

Wales has seen a referee take charge of a World Cup match for the first time since 1978 as Cheryl Foster officiated the FIFA Women’s World Cup meeting between Brazil and Panama.

The game was played at Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide / Tarntanya on Monday, 24 July with Brazil running out 4-0 winners in their opening Group F match.

It has already been an incredible year for Foster as she went into the World Cup after refereeing the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final, in which Barcelona defeated Wolfsburg 3-2 last month.

Foster is the first person from Wales to officiate at a World Cup Finals since Clive Thomas, who refereed a game between Brazil and Sweden at the men’s 1978 FIFA World Cup.
