
Cymru, Wrexham and Liverpool legend, Joey Jones has passed away and the thoughts of everyone at the Football Association of Wales are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
Left-back Jones was capped 72 times by Cymru between 1975 and 1986, having made his debut against Austria. He scored one goal for his country.
Born in Llandudno, Jones joined Wrexham in 1971 and made his debut for the club in a Welsh Cup match against Chester. Four years later, Jones picked up a winners medal when Wrexham won the Welsh Cup with a victory over Cardiff.
Following that Welsh Cup win, Jones transferred to Liverpool where he went on to win the European Cup twice (1977, 1978), the UEFA Cup (1976), the UEFA Super Cup (1977) and the English First Division title (1976/77).
Jones returned to Wrexham in 1978 but in 1982 he joined Chelsea before transferring to Huddersfield Town in 1985. However, he finished his playing career at The Racecourse when he returned to Wrexham once again between 1987 and 1992.
Jones achieved a cult hero status with Wrexham, Liverpool & Cymru and was a Welsh football legend who was adored by fans and teammates.
