Nicole Fenton wins Bute Energy Welsh Cup Player of the Round

Pontypridd United’s Nicole Fenton has been selected as the Player of the Round for the Bute Energy Welsh Cup Quarter-Finals.

The Genero Adran South side caused a shock in the last eight as they won 2-0 away at top-flight Aberystwyth Town, with Fenton scoring both goals.

The 19-year-old opened the scoring seven minutes before half-time as she received a superb overhead through ball from Lauren Payne, raced towards goal and rounded Aber goalkeeper Mia Gleave to finish into an empty net.

Fenton showed her composure again to double the lead 10 minutes into the second half when she was again played in by a Payne pass and took the ball around Gleave before finishing coolly.

Pontypridd United – the only second tier side left in the competition – will now meet last season’s runners-up Wrexham in the semi-finals on Sunday 16 March.
