The ‘FAW Fair Play’ campaign promotes the important message of ‘Fair Play’ throughout Welsh football. This initiative aims to inspire Players, Clubs, Match Officials and Supporters to maintain good on-field discipline by abiding by the Laws of the Game, in addition to respecting all members of the Welsh Football Family.
The ‘FAW Fair Play’ initiative reinforces the importance of mutual respect on and off the pitch, encouraging a reduction in on-field misconduct and promotes the ‘FAW Fair Play’ Code across the Genero Adran Leagues, JD Cymru Leagues, and Ardal Leagues.
To further encourage respectful behaviour that aligns to the ‘FAW Fair Play’ Code, the FAW incentivises and rewards Clubs who are taking a proactive role in reducing on-field misconduct. To achieve this, each month, the FAW publishes National Leagues Fair Play Tables and the Clubs who top their respective Fair Play table at the end of the season are awarded a ‘FAW Fair Play’ Award and a previous prize of £1000 that is available to be spent on improving their Club. As of the 24/25 season the prize money will increased to £1200.
Llongyfarchiadau to the ‘FAW Fair Play’ award winners for the 2024/25 season on their great achievement. The winners include:
- JD Cymru Premier – The New Saints FC
- Adran Premier – Pontypridd United Women FC

On winning the FAW Fair Play’ award Abercan FC said, “Winning the award is about having that recognition and achieving something within the FAW. The financial part is also very positive for us being able to put the funds back into the football club. The £1000 comes at a good time for us to stabilise our club in tier three. We will be using the money to improve match day equipment and kit. We also have some ideas on how we can improve our onsite facilities.”
Swansea University FC said, “Winning this award sends a good message to everyone at the club about what we’re trying to do. When the first team win an award like this and you’ve got youth coming through at 16,17 and 18, it sends the right message across the whole club on how we want to play and perform on the pitch.”
The FAW Fair Play tables are determined based on players and team officials receiving red and yellow cards. A Club receives 4 points for every yellow card and 10 or 12 points depending on the type of red card offence. Clubs that promote the ‘FAW Fair Play’ campaign and enact fair play on the pitch can receive a reduction in their disciplinary points when they evidence such instances.
To reinforce the importance of mutual respect on and off the pitch and encourage a reduction in on-field misconduct, the annual ‘FAW Fair Play’ week is taking place from Friday 27 to Sunday 6 of October for all National League Clubs.
The ‘FAW Fair Play’ initiative is an element of the FAW’s wider ‘PAWB Values’ campaign which highlights the FAW’s core values of “Respect, Excellence and Family” where the FAW are committed to ensuring football is for everyone, where everyone can feel respected and supported across the game in Wales.
