Time to Talk Day 2025

Time to Talk Day aims to encourage open conversations about mental health and to raise awareness of the support available to those who need it. This day serves as a reminder that talking about mental health can save lives, foster connections, and create a more inclusive environment where individuals feel supported.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is committed to promoting mental well-being throughout the Welsh football community. From grassroots clubs to national teams, the FAW supports initiatives that prioritise mental health and continue to break down the stigma surrounding mental health.

The FAW proudly highlights the work of grassroots clubs like Connah’s Quay Town FC, who were awarded the Together Stronger Award at the 2024 FAW McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards for their compassionate and proactive response to the tragic passing of their beloved player, Jamie Wynne. Jamie’s death by suicide shook the community, but the club’s determination to honour his memory has inspired meaningful change.

The club has implemented a mental health strategy designed to support both players and fans, with key initiatives including:

  • Creating Safe Spaces: Open forums where individuals can share experiences and discuss mental health in a supportive environment.
  • Mental Health Training: Providing education for coaches and volunteers to recognise the signs of mental distress and respond appropriately.
  • Connecting with Support Services: Establishing partnerships with organisations such as Samaritans, Mind, and Shout to ensure immediate and accessible help.
  • Well-Being Champions: Introducing well-being champions within the club to offer guidance and direct members to available resources.
  • Mental Health Awareness: Developing literature that provides information on accessing support.

Further examples of clubs’ compassionate support of their wider community are showcased in the My Club series on RedWall+. This series shines a spotlight on grassroots football across Wales, exploring the challenges, triumphs, and profound community connections that define Welsh football clubs. Each episode offers an intimate portrayal of the people who are the lifeblood of the game in Wales.
