The draw for the UEFA Nations League 2026/27 takes place on Thursday 12 February in Brussels (5pm) and Cymru head coach Craig Bellamy will be in attendance to discover his League A opponents.
Cymru were promoted from League B as they topped their group with a 4-1 win over Iceland in Cardiff in November 2024 to complete an undefeated campaign. Cymru are in Pot 4 for Thursday’s draw which will mark the start of the fifth edition of this international competition.
Promotion from League B in the last Nations League campaign delivered some memorable moments and marked the start of Bellamy’s tenure as Cymru head coach. With three wins and three draws, Cymru finished one point above Türkiye to win the group, who also sealed promotion in the subsequent play-offs.
“For where we are and where we want to be it’s huge,” explained Bellamy to Sgorio when asked about promotion to League following that win over Iceland. “It’s so important for us.”
Bellamy’s side are joined by Czechia, Greece and Türkiye in Pot 4, and will be included in one of the four groups of four nations in League A with fixtures scheduled to start at the end of September this year. The group fixtures will then continue through to November.
There will be a significant difference to the international calendar as four fixtures will be played in one international window that will take place between 24 September and 6 October.
As a League A team, achieving a top two finish in the group would see Cymru progress to the quarter-finals that will take place in March 2027. The four quarter-final winners will then progress to the Nations League finals which will take place in June 2027 and will be hosted by one of the competing nations.
Finishing third would mean a relegation play-off against a team from League B also in March, while finishing bottom of the group would result in direct relegation ahead of the next edition of the competition.
Cymru have experienced two promotions and one relegation in their previous four Nations League campaigns, having remained in League B after the inaugural edition in 2018/19.
