Briton Ferry Llansawel continued a superb season for the club as they lifted the FAW Youth Cup – defeating Barry Town United 6-2.

Caleb Demery’s first-half hat-trick plus a strike from Bobby Zzawa put them comfortably ahead at Newtown’s Latham Park.

But Barry were not to be counted out, with two goals in four minutes courtesy of Joseph Rees and Drew Perrett making the last 25 minutes very tense.

That was until Briton Ferry substitute Ollie Anderson and captain Ricky Lee-Owen both notched in injury time to restore the four-goal margin of victory.

“I’m super proud of this group and their achievement in winning the FAW Youth Cup,” Briton Ferry manager Kevin Moyes said. “It’s testament to their hard work, dedication, talent and teamwork. They are a special bunch of players that deserve all the plaudits they get.”

“Ferry were by far the better team,” Barry coach Damian Flynn said. “We got off to the worst possible start – three goals down in 14 minutes – and that’s very hard to come back from.

“We take it all as a team. I think one of the best aspects was at half-time we changed our shape, and went for a different sort of plan, and got back in the game. 4-0 down at half-time to then come back out and get back to 4-2, and we had another couple of chances – I can’t fault the boys’ character, how they actually got to the final against tough opposition, they’ve been amazing.

“We’ll learn from this – but massive applause to Briton Ferry, who did really well and I take my hat off to them.”
