Braces from Jaymie-Rose Powell and Alys Wilson secured the Bute Energy U16s Cup for Cardiff Wanderers, beating Kinmel Bay 4-0 at Latham Park, Newtown.

In a display of excellent football from both sides, Wanderers were well organised from the off, doing well to subdue Lexi Walsh, whose goalscoring form had been a great part of Kinmel Bay’s cup run.

And they also created plenty of chances, with Kinmel Bay goalkeeper Hannah Topham keeping the score down.

Kinmel Bay had opportunities of their own, looking dangerous on the counter-attack – but ultimately it was Cardiff Wanderers’ day.

“The girls showed their true class today, they played super football against a good Kinmel Bay team,” said Wanderers coach Martyn Jones.

“Proud doesn’t come close – an amazing group of individuals who together make a phenomenal team. It was a game full of class and skill which saw the girls deservedly take their place as Welsh champions.”
