Four teams will target a place in the Bute Energy U16s Cup Final this weekend as Porth Harlequins take on holders Cardiff Wanderers and The New Saints meet Pontypridd United in the semi-finals on Sunday.
Cardiff Wanderers won the cup last season with a 4-0 win over Kinmel Bay in the final and will look to move a step closer to repeating that achievement when they face Porth Harlequins at the CCB Centre For Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach (KO 14:00). Meanwhile, The New Saints take on Pontypridd United at Latham Park in Newtown (KO 15:30).
Following a 4-0 victory over Llantwit Major in the opening round, Porth Harlequins hit double figures against Pontarddulais Town in Round 2 with Mille Balman scoring five goals while Lily Walters and Evie Baynham also contributed hat-tricks in the convincing win.
However, penalties would be required against Airbus UK Broughton to reach the semi-finals, and it was Charlie Michael, Harley Bowen and Walters who made no mistake from the spot to seal their place in the last four.
Elan Hall and Elena Pennington were the hat-trick heroes for Cardiff Wanderers as they eased past Canton Football Club in Round 1, and both players were again on target in the next round as Rosehill Community were defeated 5-0, with Pennington scoring twice along with Aoibheann Ryan-Jones and Ava McCarthy.
Fairwater provided a much tougher test in Round 3, and after being two goals down at half-time, the Wanderers responded through another two goals from Pennington before Hope Rees scored the winner.
The New Saints began their cup campaign in Round 2 against Caernarfon and claimed a 5-0 win through goals from Maisie Henshaw, Lydia Dilworth and Isla Bowhill, while Grace Thomas added a brace.
Dilworth was again on target with the third goal of the afternoon in Round 3 as Swansea City were defeated 3-1 with Arabella Rees and Isla Bowhill also adding their names to the scoresheet. Captain Gwenllian Thomas equalised for the Swans in the opening half but it would prove only to be a consolation.
Pontypridd United captain Eliza Keane has scored in every round of the competition this season and heads into the semi-final with 14 goals. Keane scored seven against Ponthir AFC in Round 1 while Lydia Earles also claimed a hat-trick, and Berriew were the next opponents to be brushed aside as Keane’s five goals were complimented by Milly Parker, Ayla Harris and a double from Libby Williams.
Llandudno were then defeated 5-0 in Round 3 with Libby Emanuel proving to be the hat-trick hero alongside two more goals from Keane.
Tickets for both semi-finals will only be available to buy on the gate, costing £2 for adults. Entry is free for concessions.
