Cymru set to learn 2027 UEFA U21 EURO qualifying opponents

Cymru will discover their opponents for the 2027 UEFA U21 EURO qualifying campaign when the draw takes place at UEFA HQ in Nyon on Thursday 6 February (8AM GMT).

Cymru finished third in their last qualifying group and narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs after finishing behind Czechia due to their head-to-head record.

This will be Matty Jones’ second qualifying campaign in charge of the side, leading a new-look squad as Cymru strive to secure their first-ever finals appearance.

The draw will see 51 teams placed into nine groups: six groups of six teams and three groups of five teams. Each group is played in home-and-away round-robin format.

The 51 teams are allocated into six pots, with Cymru placed in Pot 4. Groups A, B, C, D, E and F will be made up of six teams in each, while groups G, H and I will be made up of five teams in each.

Draw procedure

The draw starts with Pot 1 and ends with Pot 6. Each pot is entirely emptied before proceeding to the next pot.

  • A ball will first be drawn from Pot 1 to determine the team in first position of Group A.
  • The next ball will be drawn from Pot 1 to determine the team in first position of Group B. The same procedure is repeated until all balls from Pot 1 have been drawn and all first positions in Groups A to I have been filled.
  • Then follows Pot 2 to determine the teams in the second positions of Groups A to I (in alphabetical order) until all balls from Pot 2 have been drawn.
  • Follows Pot 3 to determine the teams in the third positions of Groups A to I (in alphabetical order) until all balls from Pot 3 have been drawn.
  • Follows Pot 4 to determine the teams in the fourth positions of Groups A to I (in alphabetical order) until all balls from Pot 4 have been drawn.
  • Follows Pot 5 to determine the teams in the fifth positions of Groups A to I (in alphabetical order, subject to draw conditions applying) until all balls from Pot 5 have been drawn.
  • Finally, the balls from Pot 6 are drawn to determine the teams in the sixth positions of Groups A to F (in alphabetical order, subject to draw conditions applying).
