Dysgu Cymraeg with FAW and ARFOR

In 2024, the Football Association of Wales (FAW), with the support of ARFOR, launched a new initiative to take the bilingual spirit of The Red Wall into the heart of Welsh communities.

Between May and December 2024, eleven events were held in Anglesey, Gwynedd, Ceredigion, and Carmarthenshire, bringing the joy of The Red Wall to communities across Wales.

The promotion of the Welsh language was central to all the events held. One of the legacy elements from the project includes videos created to promote the use of Welsh terminology in the football world. Developed in partnership with the National Welsh Learning Centre, these videos introduce key football terms to coaches, fans, and players.

The FAW is encouraging people to make their New Year’s resolution to ‘use a little Welsh’. Aron Evans, a Welsh tutor at the FAW, presented the videos, which are available on RedWall+ to be utilised by any individual, club or organisation.

If your New Year’s resolution is to dysgu Cymraeg, the National Welsh Learning Centre have several courses available here.
