FAW Cup Draw Show: All you need to know

The FAW Cup Draw Show will be streamed on RedWall+ at 8:00pm on Friday, 4 August.

The FAW Cup Draw Show will feature the following national cup draws: 

  • JD Welsh Cup – Qualifying Round 2
  • Bute Energy Welsh Cup – Qualifying Round 
  • Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy – Round 1
  • FAW Youth Cup – Qualifying Round 
  • Bute Energy U16s Cup – Qualifying Round

Details on each of the draws can be found below, including draw numbers and information on those clubs who have received byes.


JD Welsh Cup – Qualifying Round 2

28 Clubs are provided byes directly to Round 2. This consists of the 12 JD Cymru Premier Clubs for 2023/2024, who will be joined by 8 Clubs from the JD Cymru North and 8 Clubs from the JD Cymru South, based on their finishing positions from 2022/2023.

16 Clubs are provided byes directly to Round 1. This consists of the remaining Cymru North & South sides, who had not been provided with a bye to Round 2. These 16 Clubs will also consist of the Clubs promoted to Tier 2 from Tier 3 in 2022/2023. 

112 clubs enter the competition at this stage – including the 18 teams who received a bye in Qualifying Round 1 – and have been allocated to five pots based on the geographical location of the clubs.

Qualifying Round 2 of the JD Welsh Cup will take place over the weekend of 19 August 2023.

Bute Energy Welsh Cup – Qualifying Round

30 clubs have been allocated to two pots based on the geographical location of the clubs.

17 clubs have been allocated byes in the Qualifying Round. This includes the 8 Genero Adran Premier clubs and the 9 highest ranked Genero Adran North & South clubs based on their results from the 2022/23 season.

The Qualifying Round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup will take place on 17 September 2023.

Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy – Round 1

A record number of 261 clubs have entered the competition for the 2023 / 2024 season and 66 clubs will take part in Round 1 of the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy.

Therefore, 167 clubs have been allocated byes in Round 1. This is made up of 64 Ardal Leagues clubs and 103 byes from the remaining clubs drawn by the FAW National Cup Board.

The draw has been split into seven pots based on the geographical location of the clubs.

Round 1 of the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy will take place over the weekend of the 26 August 2023.

Bute Energy U16s Cup – Qualifying Round

16 clubs have been allocated to two different pots on the basis of their geographical location.

8 clubs have been allocated byes in the Qualifying Round, which are determined as follows – the two semi-finalists from 2022 / 2023 that have entered the competition this season and 6 byes from the remaining clubs determined by this draw.

The Qualifying Round of the Bute Energy U16s Cup will take place on 3 September 2023.

FAW Youth Cup – Qualifying Round

12 clubs will participate in Qualifying Round 1 of the FAW Youth Cup and will be drawn from one pot.

58 clubs have been allocated byes in the Qualifying Round, which have been determined as follows:

  • The 4 FAW Youth Cup semi-finalists from 2022 / 2023 season.
  • All FAW Licensed Academies.
  • 31 byes from the remaining clubs.
  • In addition, due to the significant number of southern clubs who have entered, all 7 northern clubs have been allocated a bye in Qualifying Round 1.

Qualifying Round 1 of the FAW Youth Cup will take place on 10 September 2023.
