Liechtenstein v Cymru: All you need to know ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier

Cymru complete their penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture on Saturday as Craig Bellamy’s side travel to Vaduz to take on Liechtenstein (17:00 KO).

With qualification still within reach, the Cymru Match Centre has everything supporters need ahead of the crucial Group J clash.

Bellamy focused on the next challenge

Speaking ahead of the match, Cymru head coach Craig Bellamy emphasised the importance of focusing solely on Liechtenstein before attention turns to Tuesday’s decisive showdown with North Macedonia.

“Tomorrow’s the most important game because it’s our next game,” said Bellamy. Although suspended for the fixture, he highlighted the strength of his coaching team and expressed confidence in their preparation.

Cymru will be backed by around 3,000 members of The Red Wall in Vaduz, and Bellamy praised their continued commitment: “It’s been the most pleasing side – I feel we’re a big football nation, and you’ll get that feeling again tomorrow night.”

Squad preparations in full flow

Cymru finalised their preparations in Cardiff before travelling to Liechtenstein, with training sessions held throughout the week. The squad will be without Harry Wilson through suspension and several players absent due to injury, including Ben Davies, Ben Cabango and Kieffer Moore. However, Dan James returns to the squad following a recent injury, telling Sgorio he is “itching to go” and determined to make an impact.

Meet the match officials

Albania’s Juxhin Xhaja will take charge of the qualifier, with assistant referees Arber Zalla and Rejdi Avdo joining him. Enea Jorgji has been appointed as fourth official, while VAR duties will be led by Angelos Evangelou of Greece.

Brooks eyes World Cup dream

Forward David Brooks outlined the importance of the remaining fixtures as Cymru aim to take a decisive step towards reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“It’s one of the biggest honours, going to tournaments and representing your country,” he said. “The full focus is trying to help the gaffer and the team make that dream come true.”

Group J: The story so far

The battle for the top places in Group J remains finely poised. Belgium lead the group, while North Macedonia sit three points ahead of Cymru, but with Bellamy’s side holding a game in hand, victory in Vaduz would significantly strengthen their qualification hopes.

Perfect record against Liechtenstein

Cymru have won all four previous meetings against Liechtenstein without conceding a goal. The most recent encounter came in June, when Joe Rodon, Harry Wilson and Kieffer Moore scored in a comfortable 3-0 victory at Cardiff City Stadium.
