Monmouth Town youngster wins JD Welsh Cup Player of the Round

Monmouth Town full-back Jack Meredith has been selected as the Player of the Round for the JD Welsh Cup Round One.

Meredith’s Monmouth Town side – of the Gwent Premier League Division – caused an upset in Round One as they triumphed 2-0 over a Newport City side pushing towards the top end of the JD Cymru South.

Against a Steelmen attack packed with talent, 20-year-old Meredith was instrumental in Monmouth keeping a clean sheet while also proving to be a key outlet going forward.

After Dan MacDonald had scored Monmouth’s opener in the 67th minute, Meredith provided the assist for Ebrima Ndure’s goal eight minutes later to clinch a place in Round Two.

Monmouth Town will host Pill AFC in Round Two on Saturday 19 October as they target a spot in the third round for the first time three years.
