Former Cymru winger, Ronnie Rees has sadly passed away at the age of 79.
Rees was born in Ystradgynlais in April 1944 and after a spell with Merthyr Boys was signed by Billy Frith at Coventry City. However, it was under Jimmy Hill that Rees got his professional career underway and made 262 appearances for the club scoring 52 goals in the process.
Making his debut for Cymru in October 1964 against Scotland, Rees set up two late goals for Ken Leek in a 3-2 win.
Rees was capped 39 times and scored three goals. He became a regular for Cymru in the British Championships, European Championship qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers.
Rees netted his goals against Denmark in 1965 and Northern Ireland in 1968 & 1970.
His final appearance for Cymru was in a Euro qualifier away to Romania in November 1971.
Rees also played for West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest and became a record £26,000 signing for Swansea City in January 1972.
Having made 100 appearances for the Swans during a three-year spell, Rees then went on to play for Haverfordwest County.
