The New Saints eased their way into the JD Welsh Cup Final following a convincing 5-0 win over Cambrian in the Semi-Final in Aberystwyth.

Connah’s Quay Nomads await them in the final on Sunday, 4 May at Rodney Parade, Newport. Tickets for the game will soon become available at FAW Tickets.

The Saints came into their Semi-Final match against Cambrian United having secured the JD Cymru Premier title and a win would keep their hopes of a domestic treble alive having lifted the Nathaniel MG Cup at the end of February.

Cambrian of JD Cymru South coming up against a hungry TNS was a daunting prospect and they had to work incredibly hard during the opening exchanges to try and keep their opponents at bay, however, the JD Cymru Premier champions produced too much quality for them to handle.

A goal felt inevitable and Danny Redmond’s strike from distance had the right amount of pace, height and dip on the ball to clear the defensive line and glide into the net away from Morgan Davies’ outstretched arms as the goalkeeper attempted to stop it.

TNS were ruthless as they scored another three goals in quick succession with Adrian Cieslewicz, Zack Clarke and Rory Holden all netting before the half hour mark. Cambrian were doing all they could to stop each wave of attack and really needed half-time to come in order for them regroup. However, Clarke struck again before the half-time whistle was blown.

Craig Harrison’s team had the match won by half-time but Cambrian came out determined in the second half to give a good account of themselves and they did just that by stopping TNS from adding to their goal tally, with Davies pulling off several fantastic saves during the second period for Cambrian.

Cambrian exit the competition knowing that they’ve created history this season as it’s the furthest they’ve ever progressed in the JD Welsh Cup, meanwhile, The New Saints have their eyes on taking the trophy back from the current holders when they meet the Nomads at Rodney Parade in May.
