Goals from Jamie Schudles, Jykese Fields and Otto Stange handed Germany victory in November after Cymru had opened that tournament with impressive wins over Japan and the USA.

Germany were dominant in the qualifying round in Norway, winning Group 12 with emphatic victories over Armenia (7-0) and Kosovo (5-0), before edging the hosts 2-1.

Hosting their Elite Round group, they topped Group 1 after drawing with Sweden (2-2) and defeating Greece (1-0) and Austria (3-2). Francis Onyeka was the standout scorer across qualifying with eight goals. Semi-finalists in 2024/25, Germany will be aiming to add to titles won in 2008 and 2014.

DENMARK

Head coach: Mads Lyng
Last meeting: Denmark 4-0 Cymru, 14 November 2014, UEFA U19 Qualifying

Cymru complete their group stage campaign against Denmark at the Racecourse on Saturday, 4 July (2pm).

There is recent history between the two nations at youth level. Drawn together in the 2023/24 U17 competition, Craig Knight’s side suffered a narrow 2-0 defeat in their opening match of the UEFA European Under-17 finals in Cyprus. That Cymru squad included 12 of the current players selected for November’s EURO preparation tournament.

Denmark progressed as Group 10 winners in the qualifying round in Switzerland, defeating San Marino (6-0) and Switzerland (7-0), despite a narrow 1-0 loss to Sweden.

In the Elite Round in Czechia, they topped Group 4 after drawing with Belgium (0-0) and defeating Latvia (3-0) and the hosts (2-1).

Six players shared the scoring honours with two goals each: Jacob Ambæk, Olti Hyseni, Sofus Johannesen, William Martin, Valdemar Møller and Hjalte Boe Rasmussen.

Having exited at the group stage in both 2024 and 2025, Denmark have now qualified for three consecutive tournaments — an impressive run after last reaching the finals in 2001 under the U18 format.

Who is the head coach?

Mads Lyng was appointed head coach of Denmark’s Under-19 side in July 2025. A UEFA Pro Licence holder, he favours an attacking 4-3-3 system and guided Denmark through qualification for this tournament.

Lyng built his reputation within the Danish development pathway, working in youth football with Kolding FC, Skovbakken, AC Horsens and Randers FC.

He later stepped into senior football with AC Horsens, spending several years as assistant manager and also taking caretaker charge of the first team in 2020. Before taking the Denmark U19 role, he served as assistant manager at Odense Boldklub.

Key Player

A powerful and instinctive centre-forward, Jacob Ambæk is widely regarded as one of Denmark’s brightest young attacking prospects. Raised in a Brøndby-supporting family, he developed with AB Tårnby and A27 before joining Brøndby’s academy at U13 level, turning down interest from FC Copenhagen.

His rise through the youth system was prolific, helping Brøndby win Danish U17 titles while scoring heavily at both U17 and U19 level. He made his senior debut in March 2025 before signing his first professional contract later that year.

A natural number nine with pace and composure in front of goal, he quickly made an impact in the first team, scoring in both the Danish Cup and Superliga.

In April 2026, Ambæk made national headlines by scoring a hat-trick in a 6–0 win over Sønderjyske, becoming the youngest player ever to score a Superliga hat-trick. Internationally, he has represented Denmark at U16, U19 and U21 level, underlining his status as one of the country’s elite young forwards.
