Women’s U17 & U19 Euro draws confirmed

Cymru have discovered their opponents for Round 1 of the UEFA Women’s U17 and U19 Championships following today’s draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

Nia Davies’ under-17 side, who were placed in Pot 1 in League B, were drawn in Group B4 with Faroe Islands, Kazakhstan and Albania.

Albania will host the mini-tournament, which will be played between 20 and 27 November 2023.

WU17 EURO: HOW DOES ROUND 1 WORK?

League A includes 28 teams, including defending champions France and the seven nations promoted from League B after round 2 of the 2022/23 edition this spring. They have been drawn into seven groups; from these single-venue mini-tournaments, the teams finishing fourth will be relegated to League B for 2023/24 round 2, with the other positions deciding seeding for League A in that round. Sweden will take part, although their finals place is assured as hosts.

The 22 teams in League B (including sides relegated from League A in 2022/23 round 2, plus Andorra and Malta returning to the competition) will play for promotion to League A in six groups. The six group winners and the runners-up with the best record against the teams first and third in their section will be promoted. League A round 2 will decide the seven teams joining Sweden in the 2024 finals.

Nic Anderson’s under-19 side, who were placed in Pot 4 in League A, were drawn in Group A2 with England, Czechia and Greece.

Cymru will host the mini-tournament, which will be played between 23 and 31 October 2023.

WU19 EURO: HOW DOES ROUND 1 WORK?

League A consists of 28 teams, including the eight promoted from League B after 2022/23 round 2 in the spring. The teams have been drawn into seven groups; from these single-venue mini-tournaments, the teams finishing fourth will be relegated to League B for 2023/24 round 2, with the other positions deciding seeding for League A in that round.

The 23 teams in League B – including sides relegated from League A in 2022/23 round 2, as well as debut WU19 entrants Luxembourg – will compete for promotion to League A in six groups, five of four sides and the other with three. The group winners and the runners-up with the best record against the teams first and third in their section will be promoted. Lithuania will take part, although their finals place is assured as hosts.

The seven teams joining Lithuania in the 2024 finals will be decided by round 2 League A.
